Jain monk murder: BJP demands CBI enquiry, Karnataka govt 'trusts police'

Jain monk Kamakumara Nandi Maharaj went missing on July 6 and was later found murdered over a financial dispute by one of his followers.

Jain monk Kamakumara Nandi Maharaj went missing on July 6 and was later found murdered over a financial dispute by one of his followers. BJP has demanded a CBI enquiry whereas Congress wants state police to conduct probe.

Two accused have been arrested and it is said to be a financial dispute. accused have been identified as Narayan Mali (A1) and Hassan Dalayath as (A2).

Background of Jain Monk murder

A Jain monk was murdered, his body chopped into pieces and dumped in a defunct borewell.

dismembered body of Kamakumara Nandi Maharaj, a renowned Jain monk who was missing since Thursday, was found in a defunct borewell in Belagavi's Raibag Taluk.

A person identified as Narayan Maali, who was living with monk in ashram since past few years, h allegedly killed monk and cut his body into parts and h dumped it into a defunct borewell. Anor accused Hussain h helped in transporting de body.

monk h lent Rs 6 lakh belonging to a charitable trust to accused Narayan as assistance and h recently asked him to repay it. Unable to repay money, Narayan allegedly killed monk and disposed off body 30km from Ashram. body of monk was recovered after a 10-hour search operation.

Meanwhile, ruckus broke out in Assembly session over murder of monk with Basavaraj Bommai demanding a CBI inquiry into it during zero hour and questioning Congress on same with RDPR minister Priyank Kharge stating that state police were more than capable to handle inquiry.

Siddu Savi, a BJP MLA, me a controversial statement that ISIS was involved in it. "This murder is work of terrorists as y have murdered monk by electrocuting him. This work can only be done by terrorists from abro. y used to kill scientists earlier and now y are targeting monks. government should take this seriously as it is not handiwork of only two people and this is handiwork of ISIS terrorists."

Hitting out at se allegations me by BJP, Congress minister Priyank Kharge said, " BJP is desperate to get back into spotlight and y need something or or. Jain community mselves have come forward and said that investigation is heed in right direction and y are pleased with it. What's problem of BJP, we don't understand. If honourable MLA has any information, he should share it with investigation agencies and Home department. If he is withholding any information, it will be considered as abetment to murder."

re have been large scale protests held across state of Karnataka by members of Jain community demanding justice for slain monk. Protests were held in Koppal, Belagavi, Chikkodi, Dharw and Hassan.
