Jammu & Kashmir: SC allows Sitaram Yerchury visit, says 'no politcs'

The Supreme Court has granted permission to Sitaram Yechury a CPI(M) leader to visit Jammu & Kashmir to meet his party colleague Yusuf Tarigami in the state.

Supreme Court has granted permission to Sitaram Yechury, a CPI(M) leer to visit Jammu & Kashmir to meet his party colleague Yusuf Tarigami in state. However, court also told him t to use visit for any or political purpose. bench heed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said if Yechury indulges in any political activities, authorities are free to report m to apex court. Yusuf Tarigami was put into preventive custody by authorities in wake of abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir. Tarigami is a member of Central Committee of CPI(M) and has served as a four-time MLA of dissolved Jammu & Kashmir legislative assembly.

Sitaram Yerchury says he will give a statement only after his return

Sitaram Yechury me two attempts to visit Jammu & Kashmir, once with CPI General Secretary D.Raja and ar with an Opposition delegation. On both occasions, he h to return from Srinagar Airport on orders of Jammu & Kashmir ministration. CPI(M) n filed a writ petition under Article 32 of Indian Constitution, which gives person right to move to Supreme Court for getting his fundamental rights protected. After court's order, Yechury has said that after his visit he will first 'report' to court about Tarigami's health and only n will he give statements.

WHAT SC SAID

Centre h argued that Sitaram Yeruchury's visit will disturb peace in valley as visit appears to be political.  Chief Justice n replied that "if he's a citizen of country he can go" ding that "indulges any or issue it will be treated as a violation of Supreme Court order." Jammu & Kashmir has been under some restrictions in wake of abrogation of Article 370 to avoid any unrest and violence.
