Union minister Prakash Javekar on Sunday alleged that parties opposing newly enacted farm laws were acting as "middlemen for middlemen".

Talking to reporters on second day of his visit to Goa as part of ruling BJP's initiative to create awareness about farm laws, Javekar said actual situation is that farmers earn less for ir produce and customers have to buy it at higher rates.

Claiming that agitation against farm laws will die out on its own, minister said that falsehood has limited life while truth lives forever.

" Congress and NCP launched ir campaign to protest against farm bills. I am going to ask m to look at ir manifesto. Former prime minister Manmohan Singh has spoken about such (agricultural) reforms in his speeches. But, Congress has w done a u-turn," he said.

He alleged that opposition parties were spreing a "myth" that APMCs (agriculture produce market committees) will be shut down under new laws, and government will stop purchasing produce or minimum support price (MSP) would be stopped.

Referring to a protest by a group of people on his way to Mapusa town on Saturday, Javekar said he doubts that those who were protesting were real farmers.

He said 60 per cent population of country is involved in farming sector, but ir contribution to GDP (gross domestic product) is 15 per cent. re is a need to increase productivity and also give m markets outside country so that ir standard of living improves, he said.

Javekar said when he was in school, countrys population was 30 crore, which has w increase to 138 crore, but despite that, res short of food.

"We are thankful to farmers who have been feeding our country," he said, ding that it is responsibility of government to increase ir income.

Farmers' Produce Tre and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill 2020 became law after getting presidential assent recently.
