In a massive development and ar serious setback for Congress, as many as 1000 leers from interim President Sonia Gandhi's constituency are likely to quit party. 

Congress workers from Raebareli on Tuesday reached Gandhi's residence in Delhi to tender ir resignations over complaints that new Congress members are being given more priority by leership.

At least 35 to 60 have alrey quit party but were still t able to meet Congress top brass to dress ir grievances. Congress workers gared outside party chief's residence said y were called to meet Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. 

country's main opposition party has been facing turmoil, with growing dissenters who have on multiple occasions expressed displeasure with functioning of Congress leership.

Congress leers express dissent

Back in August 2020, in a letter dressed to Sonia Gandhi, senior party leers h observed that uncertainty of leership and increasing rift in party h weakened Congress and demoralized its workers. 

letter reportedly mentioned many suggestions such as need for a full-time president at national and state hequarters, holding of elections at all levels including Congress Working Committee and state level, formation of an Independent Election Authority, and institutional leership mechanism to strategize party's revival.

Despite high-octane drama at CWC meeting, it was decided that Rae Bareli MP will continue as interim president at least until next AICC session is convened. But concerns were reiterated openly by senior Congress members such as Kapil Sibal, P Chidambaram, and Ghulam Nabi Az after loss in Bihar Assembly election.
