In a major development, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath anunced on Monday that a grand Sita temple would be built in Sri Lanka. construction of temple in Sri Lanka was first ideated by n chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, following visit of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa had visited Sanchi to lay foundation stone of an international Buddha university.
According to sources, CM’s anuncement came during a meeting with a delegation of Maha Bodhi society led by minister for public relations PC Sharma at state secretariat. president of Maha Bodhi Society - Banagla Uptisa - was also present at meeting.

“ CM ordered constitution of a committee comprising of officials from Madhya Pradesh and Sri Lanka, to work on project. He instructed authorities to prepare a plan soon for construction of a Bauddh museum, study and training centre of international standard in Sanchi,” official spokesperson said.
During meeting Kamal Nath also said that a committee will monitor constantly construction work of temple so that temple is constructed within stipulated time. design of temple should be finalised and necessary fund should be made available in this fiscal year itself so that temple could be built at earliest.”
Nath also directed officials to allot land in Sanchi for construction of a Buddha museum, research and training centre of international standard. CM also informed that Mahabodhi society president, Japan and companies of or countries have offered financial assistance for development of Sanchi.

Public Relation Minister's trip to Sri Lanka
Furrmore, Sharma informed about his recent visit to Sri Lanka and discussions held with officials re on Sita temple construction. Sharma said Buddhists from Sri Lanka and or countries would arrive in large numbers in Sanchi if better air services are provided, and people from here would also be able to go to island nation to pray at Sita temple.
