As former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram turns 74 on Monday, his son Karti Chidambaram has written a letter to his father detailing what he has missed since he was put in judicial custody on September 5. In the letter, he has highlighted that turning '74 is nothing compared to turning 100 days old', taking a dig at the BJP government recently released a 100-day progress report. He goes on to call the moment where PM Modi offered solace to ISRO chief K Sivan - a drama and also takes a dig at Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Piyush Goyal's comments on the Indian economy. Chidambaram is currently in judicial custody at Tihar Jail in New Delhi in connection with the CBI's INX-Media case.

Karti briefs father about current events on birthday
He goes on to talk about the ground situation in Kashmir and liken his father's imprisonment to the security lockdown in the Valley. He also briefed his father about the chaos in the British Parliament over the 'no-deal' Brexit. He has alleged that the NRC List which was published is a sham, similar to finding mythical bank accounts - referring to the innumerable bank accounts found by the ED in the name of detained Congress leader D K Shivakumar. He also briefed Chidambaram about Hong Kong's pro-democracy protest and likened the island city's situation to India. Hoping that his father will come out 'gun-blazing' like the US Open 2019 champion Rafael Nadal, he concluded his letter awaiting a 'hard-fought glory of truth'.

Prior to this development, the Supreme Court had dismissed the ex-FM's plea against the August 20 order of the Delhi High Court denying him pre-arrest bail. The CBI had registered an FIR on May 15, 2017, alleging irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance granted to the INX Media group for receiving overseas funds of Rs 305 crore in 2007 during Chidambaram's tenure as the Finance Minister. Thereafter, the Enforcement Directorate had lodged a money laundering case in this regard in 2017.
