Kerala Congress holds hunger strike against petrol price hike
Kerala Congress on Tuesday held a hunger strike against the hike in prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas. Congress leader Chandy inaugurated the strike.

Kerala Congress on Tuesday held a hunger strike in front of Raj Bhavan in protest against hike in prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas. Congress leer Oommen Chandy inaugurated hunger strike which was led by Kerala Presh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Mullapally Ramachandran. Centre h hiked prices of LPG, petrol, and diesel in national capital on Monday.
Congress' hunger strike against fuel price hike
Ramachandran said, " poor people have been put to misery by Centre which has hiked prices of petroleum products. state government is t rey to cut taxes on petrol and diesel, putting people in hardship. During last UDF government, n Chief Minister Oommen Chandy h cut state tax. But Pinarayi government is t doing it. Manmohan Singh too, while leing UPA governments h given Rs 1,25,000 by way of subsidy." Congress leer opined, "This is a token strike, and if Centre and state governments fail to dress issue, Congress will intensify strike from tomorrow onwards."

Congress' #SpeakUpAgainstFuelHike campaign
In July last year, amidst countrywide lockdown imposed due to coronavirus pandemic, Congress led a social media campaign #SpeakUpAgainstFuelHike. party h said, " rising prices of petrol and diesel in epidemic has shaken every class. Let us wake up government by raising voice of public against rising prices of petrol and diesel by becoming part of #SpeakUpAgainstFuelHike campaign."
From its official Twitter handle, Congress h tweeted, "In this emergency, common man is craving relief; BJP government is breaking relief by raising prices of petrol and diesel. difference between rising prices of crude oil and petrol and diesel is making it clear that plundering of BJP is going on in full swing.

On February 1, 2021, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting Union Budget 2021, introduced an agriculture infra cess on fuel due to which price of petrol increased by Rs 2.5 per litre while diesel got costlier by Rs 4 per litre. Also, FM h said that it will t impact final consumers as central government has decided to reduce Basic Customs Duty on fuel.
