Kerala Guv: Protesting on roads for forcing Parliament to adopt resolution is 'terrorism'

Kerala Goverr Arif Mohamm Khan on Friday said that people who are protesting on ros and are t rey to relent unless Parliament opts resolution to ir liking are indulging in a kind of "terrorism". He also said that dissent is essence of democracy. This comes even as Supreme Court-appointed interlocutors -- Sanjay Hegde and Shana Ramachandran -- are engaging with protestors at Shaheen Bagh in a bid to convince m to hold agitation at an alternative site.

dressing a garing Khan said, "On any piece of legislation passed by Parliament or on any policy of government, you have every right to differ with government or with any individual or group and that right must be respected. re is problem re."

"However, five people sit outside Vigyan Bhavan, and say we shall t move from here unless Parliament opts a resolution which we like m to opt, this is t way. This is ar form of terrorism," he ded.

Two days of mediation between Supreme Court-appointed interlocutors Shana Ramachandran and Sanjay Hegde have t resulted in any breakthrough.  Talking to media, Ramachandran ted that it was a good interaction and that women of Shaheen Bagh h shared ir pain and anxiety with m. But she ded," How can we talk if such a situation persists? women told us that we have t been able to discipline crowd."

On Monday, Supreme Court-appointed vocates Sanjay Hegde and Shana Ramachandran as interlocutors to talk to protestors at Shaheen Bagh and try to persue m on shifting protest site, while hearing petitions seeking clearance of Kalindi Kunj ro which has remained blocked for over 60 days on account of anti-CAA protest at Delhi's Shaheen Bagh. Moreover, apex court has also asked Centre to look into alternative protest sites like Ramlila Maidan, Janta Mantar, Lal Quila as such. next hearing will be held on February 24.

Shaheen Bagh protests began on December 14 where thousands of people, including women and children camped on streets have been a major poll controversy. Though PM Modi called it a 'political experiment', Congress and AAP  have supported protests - offering biryani to protestors. Inspite of Shaheen Bagh Coordination committee calling off ir part of protests on January 2, citing politicizing of protests, protests against NRC and CAA continue mainly led by Muslim women. y fear that two laws in combination would deprive a large section of Muslim population of ir citizenship rights.
