LAC faceoff: P Chidambaram demands India-China joint statement on 'disengagement plan'

On Thursday, senior Congress leer P Chidambaram demanded a joint statement from India and China on disengment plan pertaining to LAC faceoff. He called upon Centre to divulge details of "never-ending talks" with China. Making light of speculation that both sides have agreed to disengment, Chidambaram claimed that China h flatly denied this.
Rajya Sabha MP was referring to an article in Chinese Communist Party's mouthpiece Global Times which claimed that reports about a disengment agreement are "t helpful for two sides to reach ir established goals". While ackwledging that 8th round of Corps Commander-level talks h brought good momentum, it cited sources as saying that disengment plan mentioned in Indian media is "t accurate". Warning of impending winter, Chidambaram alleged that China was unlikely to let go of "territory it has encroached upon".

Speculation about disengment plan
Sources told ANI that India and China would dismantle all new structures that have come up since beginning of standoff at LAC. Moreover, re is a possibility that re will be patrolling activity by eir side between Finger 4 and Finger 8. Reportedly, first step in disengment plan entails that armoured vehicles will be moved back from ir frontline deployment to a significant distance from LAC by both sides.

Subsequently, sources have indicated that India and China shall withdraw about 30% of ir troops near rrn bank on Pangong Tso lake for three days. last step allegedly involves withdrawal of both sides from ir respective positions along sourn bank of Pangong Tso lake. Both India and China have also reportedly agreed for a joint mechanism to verify progress in disengment process.

LAC faceoff
faceoff at Line of Actual Control was exacerbated when 20 Indian Army soldiers including a Commanding Officer were martyred in Galwan Valley on June 15 when de-escalation process was underway. This was followed by multiple attempts of provocation by Chinese side at end of August. Multiple rounds of Corps Commander-level and WMCC meetings have taken place between two sides to resolve crisis.
