‘Lifelong Congresswoman who transformed the face of Delhi’: Congress pays respects to Former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit after her demise

Congress party paid their respects to three-time Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit after her death on Saturday. Expressing regret over her loss and sending their condolences to her family, the party honoured the politician as a ‘lifelong congresswoman’ and credited her for transforming the face of Delhi.

Congress party paid their respects to three-time Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit after her death on Saturday. Expressing regret over her loss and sending their condolences to her family, the party honoured the politician as a ‘lifelong congresswoman’ and credited her for transforming the face of Delhi.

The official Twitter handle of Congress wrote, “We regret to hear of the passing of Smt Sheila Dikshit. Lifelong congresswoman and as three time CM of Delhi she transformed the face of Delhi. Our condolences to her family and friends. Hope they find strength in this time of grief.” 

Dikshit was 81. Informing about the cause of her demise, Dr Ashok Seth the director of Escorts Fortis where her treatment was going on said that she suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away at 03:55 PM.

Dikshit was the longest-serving Chief Minister of Delhi, serving for a period of 15 years from 1998 to 2013. Dikshit led Congress party to three consecutive electoral victories in Delhi. Subsequently, she was sworn in as Governor of Kerala on 11 March 2014 and served for five months. The Congress party fought the recent Lok Sabha elections in Delhi under her leadership.

Tributes started pouring in, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Capt.Amarinder Singh, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Ahmed Patel, Ashok Gehlot, Sachin Pilot, among others expressing their grief and conveying their condolences to the family.
