ACCESSED: List of MPs who didn't vote on CAB in the Rajya Sabha
As the Rajya Sabha passed CAB with a 125-105 majority on Wed, there were nearly 16 MPs who walked out or did not vote in the house as they were absent.

As Rajya Sabha passed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 with a 125-105 votes majority on Wednesday, re were around 16 members who did t vote in House. This included two from BJP MPs, one from INC MP, three from Shiv Sena MPs and two from NCP, IND, and BSP each. Apart from m, one MP each from AITC, SP, JD(S) and TRS parties did t attend CAB proceedings.
While some did t attend session at all, a few MPs walked out of house before voting began. three Shiv Sena MPs including Sanjay Raut did st a walkout from Upper House of Parliament. Rajya Sabha passes CAB
On Wednesday, Rajya Sabha passed Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2019 (CAB) by a majority of 125-105 votes. This comes after more than 40 MPs including P Chidambaram, Kapil Sibal, Ghulam Nabi Az, Derek O'Brien, Sanjay Singh, Sanjay Raut, and Vaiko put forth ir arguments eir in favour or against CAB. Some members including Shiv Sena MPs walked out before commencement of voting process. Earlier on Monday, Lower House of Parliament cleared legislation with a landslide margin. Once President gives his assent to Bill, it will immediately come into operation.

Sanjay Raut on Shiv Sena's walkout
Speaking to media after walking out of Rajya Sabha, Raut said, "We wanted a few answers to our questions. But I and my party thought that if we are t getting any answers properly n re is point in opposing or supporting bill." Furr, speaking about vote bank politics, he said, " vote bank politics should t be played. It is t correct. Do t attempt to create a Hindu-Muslim divide again. Also, re is thing in this Bill for Tamil Hindus of Sri Lanka."

Citizenship Amendment Bill
Bill seeks to provide citizenship to mirity communities namely Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Banglesh and Pakistan. This will be applicable to members of se communities having arrived in India on or before December 31, 2014. Moreover, y will t be considered as illegal migrants.

ditionally, mandatory residence period for naturalised citizenship for se communities would be reduced to 5 years. Several parties in rth East such as All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) have been vehemently opposed to this Bill. To ameliorate ir concerns, Centre has exempted a major part of rth East from ambit of CAB. opposition contends that Bill discriminates on basis of religion, which might go against Article 14, which guarantees right to equality.
