Reacting on the recent decision by Arvind Kejriwal that the Delhi Metro and DTC bus travel will be free for all women in the National Capital, Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari, on Monday said that people of Delhi are having a hearty laugh on the announcements by the Delhi government. He added that Arvind Kejriwal has lost grounds in Delhi and therefore now he has started making false promises to mislead people.

Addressing the media in the press conference of the BJP, Tiwari slammed the Chief Minister of Delhi and called him 'ghosna mantri' (announcement minister). He said that this is the modus operandi of AAP, as the assembly elections are approaching, he will make many more announcements. He then went on to ask where are the 500 schools that he promised, what happened to his promise of free water, where are the wi-fi that he promised. He accused Arvind Kejriwal of buying the votes and said that he has lost all his mental rationality. He then added that Delhi wants to get rid of a curse like Arvind Kejriwal and that people of Delhi will no longer mislead by his false promises.

"People must understand the lies of Arvind Kejriwal and should not come under the effect of his words. He has not done anything in five years, what will he do in 3 months. He has not allowed the implementation of Ayushman Bharat. I demand and request him that in your last months of rule implement Ayushman Bharat and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana," the Delhi BJP chief said.

With Assembly polls due early next year in the city, the Aam Aadmi Party government announced that they will make metro and bus travel free for women in Delhi "to encourage them to use public transport". At a public meeting in New Delhi on June 1, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also said his government is in touch with city's power regulator to bring down a fixed charge component of electricity bill.

Addressing media on June 3, he said:

"The women feel a lot unsafe in Delhi. Safety of women is top priority for the AAP government. For the safety of woman, two big decisions have been taken. One is that we have trying to install CCTV camera across the city. Now, tender has been passed to install over 1.5 lakh CCTV cameras. Survey of 70,000 cameras has been completed. So from June 8, the camera will start getting installed. Cameras will be installed in schools and it will be done by November. It has been believed that public transport is the safest for women. So for the safety of women, the government has taken the decision that in Delhi, in all DTC buses, cluster buses and metros, the journey of the women will be free such women can make the best use of it," Arvind Kejriwal said during the press briefing.

This development has come days after the Aam Aadmi Party lost miserably in the Lok Sabha elections against the BJP party which won all the seven seats in the National Capital.
