Meghalaya: NPP joins hands with opposition Congress, ousts alliance partner from district council panel
Khasi Hills Democratic Front (KHDF) is the name given to the NPP-Congress coalition to govern the council. Syiem, who heads the KHDF was sworn in as chief executive member with no other contender for the post.

A leer of NPP became chief of executive committee of an autonomous district council after party heing ruling coalition of Meghalaya ousted alliance partner UDP by joining hands with opposition Congress.
National People’s Party (NPP) member of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, Pyniaid Sing Syiem, led rebellion against Titosstarwell Chyne-led United Democratic Alliance executive committee and latter was reduced to a minority in house of 30 on Monday.

executive committee led by Chyne lost its majority in autonomous district council following its defeat during voting on a no trust motion moved by Bajop Pyngrope of NPP.
Syiem, who hes Khasi Hills Democratic Front (KHDF), was Tuesday sworn in as chief executive member with no or contender for post.

KHDF is name given to NPP-Congress coalition to govern council.
KHDF now has support of 18 members (12 NPP and 6 Congress) while outgoing UDA has 12 members in its fold (10 UDP, 1HSPDP and 1 Independent).

Syiem told PTI that NPP which h requisite numbers for over a year now h been a “spectator” in council.
"It is time that party with numbers take le for remaining tenure of current House," he said.

5-year term of current council is till early next year.
Congress defended party’s decision to support NPP at council.
" party is supporting NPP at Council in interest of tribal people of state. If we do not support NPP, an ministrator's rule is likely to be imposed in council in absence of an absolute majority by any party," Leer of Opposition in Assembly, Ronnie V Lyngdoh of Congress, said.
