Metro carshed row: Thackeray says 'not about my ego', Fadnavis retorts 'make cost public'

With Bombay High Court stalling Metro work in Kanjurmarg, Thackeray has directed officials to explore shifting of Metro car shed from proposed Kanjurmarg land to or sites which include land set aside for Centre's Mumbai-Ahmedab bullet train.

"We have all documents to prove that land belongs to state government. If re is a controversy over ownership of land, issue can be resolved through dialogue," Thackeray said ding, "Should land be allowed to go because of ownership issues and should it be given to builders? issue on Kanjurmarg land is t about my ego and it shouldn't be about yours too. We are rey to give credit for project to Centre if y resolve car shed land issue."
Talking about stalemate between metro land in Kanjurmarg and bullet train in BKC, he ded, "We did t create an obstruction. If you create problems in Kanjurmarg and we do in BKC, creating problems in each ors projects will serve purpose". Mumbai–Ahmedab High-Speed Rail Corridor is PM Narendra Modi's pet project worth Rs 1.1 lakh crores, with Maharashtra only acquiring 22% of required land for project while Gujarat has acquired over 90% of land.

Fnavis: 'BJP never fights for credit'
Retaliating to Thackeray, ex-CM Devendra Fnavis said that question was t about credit, but Mumbaikars' convenience. Demanding government make High committee report public, he pointed out how Kanjurmarg land would cost extra for acquisition. He pointed out that 80% of tunnelling work for Metro-3 was done, hence inspite of which land will be chosen, time and money was lost.

Bombay HC stays Metro car shed
On Wednesday, Bombay High Court stayed metro car shed project at Kanjurmarg, asking Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to maintain status quo. Maharashtra Government has agreed to take back its October 15, 2020, order of land allotment to MMRDA for Metro car shed at Kanjurmarg, according to ANI. CM Uddhav Thackeray h ordered shifting car shed for lines 3, 4, 4A and 6 to Kanjurmarg after declaring 800 acres of Aarey land near Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) as a 'forest', excluding constructions of all s of ros, slums, ivasi pockets and government facilities.

Union Government h filed a petition in High Court challenging order passed by Collector allotting land for construction of car shed, and said land belongs to its ( Centre) salt department. Maharashtra Vikas Aghi government, however, opposed plea and said land, allotted to MMRDA for Metro car shed, is owned by state. Previously, Fnavis government h decided to construct car shed, part of Mumbai Metro line 3, at Aarey Colony, but h stopped after Supreme Court stayed tree-felling on site.
