Senior Congress leader and former MP Milind Deora on Tuesday termed the imposition of President’s Rule in Maharashtra as “highly unfortunate”. He expressed his displeasure in such a situation emerging in India’s commercial capital. Moreover, he contended that the voters in the state deserved an alternative. Milind Deora also hinted at the potential ego battle in the Congress camp to forge an alliance with the Shiv Sena. Earlier, President Ram Nath Kovind approved the proclamation of imposing President's Rule in Maharashtra after the Governor contended that it was impossible to constitute a stable government in the state.

Deora's take on the political situation

Deora has been quite vocal in advocating his position on the political situation in Maharashtra since the declaration of the Assembly results. When the Shiv Sena moved its 56 MLAs to a hotel to ensure that none of them defected to the BJP, he said that horse-trading was "unacceptable". The Congress leader also urged BJP and the Sena to respect the mandate of the people and focus on governance. After the BJP declined to accept Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari’s invite to form the government on November 10, he requested that Congress and NCP be invited next as the second-largest alliance. This was an indication of his backing the prospect of a non-BJP government in the state.
