MNM not to contest Oct 21 bypolls to 2 assembly segments in Tamil Nadu

Makakl Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan said his party would not contest the October 21 by-polls, dubbing it "corrupt political drama" by AIADMK and DMK.

Dubbing October 21 by-polls to two Assembly segments in Tamil Nu as a "corrupt political drama" by AIMK and DMK and a "power struggle," between m, Makakl Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan on Sunday said his party would t contest by-elections.

MNM to avoid contesting by-polls

Haasan-led party, which its electoral debut in Lok Sabha polls months ago and secured third slot in a number of seats, said it does t want to be part of "this corrupt political drama in name of byelections to Nanguneri and Vikravandi." In a statement here, party president Kamal Haasan said:

"It is very apparent that byelections will be thing more than a power struggle between ruling party and one which governed earlier to retain ir power and positions y have."

actor-politician said MNM is rapidly working towards getting support of people of Tamil Nu and "to form government in 2021, reby removing old, redundant political parties and ir corrupt counterparts to provide good governance which people deserve." On Saturday, DMK chief M K Stalin h anunced said his party would seek re-election from Vikravandi and its ally Congress from Nanguneri, and also Kamaraj Nagar in Puducherry.

Vikravandi and Nanguneri seats fell vacant in June and May this year respectively. DMK's K Rathamani, who represented Vikravani died, while H Vasantha Kumar of Congress, who was Nanguneri MLA, resigned from his post in May following his election to Lok Sabha from Kanyakumari constituency. V Vaithilingam of Congress, who represented Kamaraj Nagar, resigned after he was elected to Lok Sabha from Union Territory.
