Narendra Tomar slams opposition's clamouring over Farm Bills, says 'insult to farmers'

Amid uproar over Farm Bills 2020, Union minister of agriculture and farmer welfare Narendra Singh Tomar accused opposition to be against interest of people. Amid vehement objection and clamouring from opposition, Rajya Sabha on Sunday passed two farm bills via a voice vote.
Days after ir pass in Lok Sabha, Tomar introduced Farmer's Produce Tre and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 in Rajya Sabha. bills faced staunch opposition from farmer bodies as well as from within ruling coalition.

Tomar questioned Congress' stand over bill and reminded m of ir manifesto. He ded that clamouring by opposition in Rajya Sabha was an insult to farmers.
"I want to say Congress h this in ir manifesto. w congress took a u-turn. PM Modi did what farmers wanted. What opposition did is against people. What opposition did today was an insult to farmers," Tomar said.

Oppositions protest
Opposition h launched a high-intensity attack on Centre in Rajya Sabha on Sunday as bills were tabled for discussion in upper house. Opposing bills, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Derek O'Brien targeted Centre and reminded Centre of its promise of doubling farmers' income by 2022.
Congress MPs were outrd when USRCP MP VV Reddy backed bill and said that re was reason for Congress to oppose bills, ding that Congress is a party of 'Dalals' (middlemen). He seemingly said that to take a jibe on Congress as bills seek to end mechanism of middlemen in agricultural sector where farmers need be dependant on middlemen to sell ir produce, however, y would have option to seek middlemen if y wish to.

DMK MP TKS Elangovan said that Farmers who contribute at least 20% to total GDP of country will be me slaves by se Bills. It will kill farmers and make m a commodity, he contended.
