With the Centre set to table the Triple Talaq Bill in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, the Congress party has resorted to rake up the claims made by US President Donald Trump alleging that he was asked by PM Modi to mediate in Kashmir issue. Taking to Twitter hours before the tabling of Triple Talaq Bill in the Parliament, Congress MP Manish Tewari alleged that the bill is making a "dramatic appearance" in the Lower House as a "deflection from Modi's invite to Trump to intervene in Kashmir".
He further added that "if the NDA/BJP is keen to intervene in Muslim Personal Law, why does it not consult the community and codify it holistically like Hindu Code Bill in the 1950’s??"

Meanwhile, the Congress party has issued whip to its MPs in Rajya Sabha to be present in the House on Thursday. Earlier on Wednesday, the BJP party had also issued a whip to its MPs, asking them to ensure their presence in the Lower House.

The Triple Talaq bill, which criminalises instant divorce by Muslim men and seeks jail term for the guilty, was the first draft legislation tabled by the Narendra Modi government in this first session after it took the oath of office for a second term in May.
Several opposition parties have bitterly opposed the bill even as the Centre has been asserting that the bill is a step towards gender equality and justice. Enjoying a majority by the BJP in the Lok Sabha, the Triple Talaq bill will likely be passed in the Lower House. However, the bill will face the test in the Upper House which has a considerably higher number of Congress MPs.
