On Trinamool foundation day, Suvendu Adhikari's brother & '5000 party workers' to join BJP

BJP leer Suvendu hikari on Friday confirmed that his disgruntled bror and TMC leer Soumendu -- recently removed from post of ministrator at Contai Municipality -- will join saffron camp along with a host of or leers from state's ruling party. Asserting that TMC, of which he was a part till about a month ago, will disintegrate soon, hikari, during a meeting in Purba Medinipur, claimed that Soumendu, toger with a few councillors and 5,000 TMC workers, will switch over to saffron party later in day. All eyes are now at or two members of hikari household who are still in TMC camp -- MPs Dibyendu and Sisir. Incidentally, it is foundation day of Trinamool Congress today. 

hikari said on occasion of Mamata Banerjee-led party's Foundation Day, "My younger bror Soumendu will join BJP in Contai today. He will be accompanied by several councillors and 5,000 TMC grassroots workers. TMC will steily disintegrate."

Taking action against West Bengal government, Soumendu hikari on Thursday filed a petition before Calcutta High Court challenging his removal from post of ministrator of Contai Municipality in Purba Medinipur district. hikari claimed that he has been illegally removed by West Bengal government's Municipal Affairs Department from post of ministrator of civic body. hikari was chairman of Contai Municipality till term of board expired in 2019. He was n appointed as its ministrator since elections were postponed owing to COVID-19 pandemic situation. Senior lawyer Bikash Bhattacharya, representing hikari, said that matter is likely to come up for hearing before a bench of high court next week after it reopens after winter vacation. On December 30, days after Suvendu hikari joined BJP, Bengal government removed his bror Soumendu hikari from post of Chairperson of Contai Municipality and placed Siddhartha Maity at position.

On December 17, Suvendu hikari officially quit Trinamool and joined BJP in presence of ex- BJP chief Amit Shah. In his letter after resignation, hikari blamed sidelining of leers and said that Mamata has betrayed party ideals. He said that a "deep rot and malaise" has set in party, and asserted that "individuals in charge of party currently are treating it as ir personal fiefdom." In an apparent dig at Prashant Kishor, who is political strategist of TMC for 2021 polls, said that those who have no idea about sacrifices of party are being hired to assist party.  hikari - mastermind of 2007 Nandigram agitation - holds influence in about 35 assembly constituencies in West Midnapore, Bankura, Purulia, Jhargram and Birbhum districts.
