As Opposition continue to create ruckus over ongoing farmers' protests at Delhi borders, Leer of Opposition hir Ranjan Chowdhury on Friday, demanded a separate discussion on farmers' issue after Motion of Thanks. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla h called a meeting of Opposition parties, but y have maintained ir demand on a debate on farmers' issue. Rajya Sabha has alrey discussed ongoing farmers' protests as a part of Motion of Thanks discussion after government increased 'Motion of Thanks' discussion from 10 to 15 hours on Wednesday.

During three days of debate as part of Motion of Thanks to President's Speech, several Opposition leers like Digvijay Singh, Deepinder Singh Hooda lashed out at Centre over ongoing farmers' protest - highlighting 150+ deaths since protests began. In replay to Opposition, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar listed out efforts of PM Narendra Modi-led government's efforts to double income of farmers and emphasized on benefits of three farm laws. Downplaying two-month-long agitation by farmers against se laws, Union Minister remarked that protests are restricted to only one state and claimed that farm unions have 'failed' to point out even a 'single flaw' in three agri laws.

Centre-Farmer talks stall

After 11 rounds of Centre-farmer talks, two parties failed to reach a middle ground on Friday after a five-hour meeting with associations refusing to agree to Centre's proposal for suspending implementation of aforesaid legislation for one and a half years. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar categorically said that Union government is rey for ar meeting only if farmers want to discuss this proposal. Supreme Court has stayed three laws and constituted a 3-member panel to hold talks with farmers. While Centre has welcomed this move, farmers have refused to participate in it, insisting to talk only with Centre.

Despite Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM)'s assurance and Delhi Police's conditions for Republic Day tractor march, violence broke out on January 26, as farmers entered Delhi - breaking barrices and cemented barriers, riding bikes brandishing swords, sticks and vandalising a bus, drove tractors at full speed towards police - leing to clashes with Delhi police. As teargas shells, lathicharge was used, police claimed that over 500 personnel were injured and one protestor died after a tractor upturned. most shocking act was when a group of farmers allegedly led by actor-turned-activist Deep Sidhu breached Red Fort and hoisted 'Nishan Sahib' and Kisan Union flag atop Red Fort's dome and Khalsa flag on flag pole. Delhi police have filed over 25 cases, 44 FIRs and arrested 122 people - after a protestor died and 510 police personnel were injured. Delhi police have fortified city borders by cementing nails near barrices at Ghazipur (Delhi-Uttar Presh) and Tikri (Delhi-Haryana) borders ahe of farmers' 3-hr Chakka Jam.
