Sedition to be completely repealed in new bill that replaces IPC: Amit Shah
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said sedition will be completely repealed in the Bill which if passed will replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Addressing the Lok Sabha, Shah said, "The British introduced sedition laws to safeguard their authority. I want to convey to this esteemed House that our government has taken a historic decision. We are fully repealing the Sedition Law. In our democracy, everyone has the right to speech. We completely repealing sedition law." Amit Shah moves principal law for criminal justice system
"The three Bills that I am moving today include the principle law for the criminal justice system. One is Indian Penal Code which was formed in 1860, the second is Criminal Procedure Code which was formed in 1898 and the third is Indian Evidence Act, which was formed in 1872. We will end these laws today, which were brought by the British," says Union Home Minister Amit Shah said.

Congress raises Adhir Ranjan's suspension in Rajya Sabha
Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge raised the matter of Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's suspension from Lok Sabha. He was suspended on Thursday for his ‘unruly’ conduct and for allegedly attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the House during his no-trust motion. The suspension motion was brought in the Parliament by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi. The matter regarding Chowdary’s suspension is pending before the privileges committee.

Union Minister of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal said, "Supreme Court had given a decision in this regard...So we brought the law according to the decision of the Supreme Court...In the new Bill, we are forming a Search Committee which will be led by the Cabinet Secretary...After that, there will be a Selection Committee which will be led by the Prime Minister. What is wrong with that?..."
He introduced the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Bill, 2023 in the Rajya Sabha on August 10, to regulate the appointment, conditions of service and term of office of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners and the procedure for transaction of business by the Election Commission.
