PM Modi emphasizes on conservation of wildlife and habitat, says 'It's a part of ethos'

PM Modi on Monday spoke about the importance of conservation of wildlife and habitat while addressing the UN Convention on Migratory Species (CMS).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday spoke about importance of conservation of wildlife and habitat while dressing United Nations (UN) Convention on Migratory Species (CMS). According to him, for s, conservation of wildlife and habitat have been a part of our cultural ethos, which encours compassion and coexistence.

dressing convention, PM Modi said, "Our Vedas spoke of protection of animals. Emperor Asoka put great emphasis on preventing destruction of forests and killing of animals," he said. Stating that India is blessed with diverse ecological habitats, and also has 4 bio-diversity hotspots, he said: "With 2.4 per cent of world's land area, India contributes to about 8 per cent of world's kwn bio-diversities. y are  Eastern Himalayas,  Western Ghats, Indo-Myanmar landscape, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands."

On Values and conservation

PM Modi emphasized on values and conservation of wildlife and said, "India has been championing Climate Action based on values of conservation, sustainable lifestyle and green development model." He furr ded that India is home to around 500 species of migratory birds from across world. 

According to him,  ethos of n-violence and protection of animals and nature has been suitably enshrined in Constitution of India, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi.

PM Modi inaugurated UN Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) through video conferencing on Monday.  me of conference this year is - 'Migratory species connect planet and toger we welcome m home'. It will conclude on February 22.

According to reports, summit will bring toger 1200 delegates from over 110 countries to deliberate on alarming decline of migratory species. Furr, delegates will be discussing topics such as  impact of infrastructure development on migratory patterns of animals.
