PM Modi hails passage of 'historic' farm bills, warns of attempt to mislead farmers
On Thursday, September 17, PM Modi hailed the passage of the "historic" agrarian reform bills, describing it as an important moment in the agriculture sector.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed pass of "historic" agrarian reform bills, describing it as an important moment in agriculture sector. He stated that se bills will free farmers from middlemen and or barriers. According to him, farmers will get new opportunities for selling ir produce, reby increasing ir income.
PM opined that agricultural sector will benefit from latest techlogy. In a veiled dig at opposition, he mentioned that some forces were trying to misle farmers. Giving an assurance that current system of Minimum Support Price and government purchase of farm produce will continue, he appealed to people associated with agricultural sector to listen to Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar's speech in Lok Sabha.

Lok Sabha has passed Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020, Farmers' Produce Tre and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020. se bills were introduced by Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar to replace three ordinances promulgated on June 5. As per Centre, Essential Commodities Act, 1955 was amended to ensure that farmers get a good price on many commodities.
Items such as food grains, oil, dal, pulses, potato have been removed from purview of this Act. Farmers' Produce Tre and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 aims at freeing farmers from constraints of state Agriculture Produce Market Committees whereby y would be able to sell ir produce anywhere. On or hand, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 protects and empowers farmers to eng with processors, wholesalers, large retailers, exporters for farm services.

opposition has alleged that bills will benefit only big farmers and corporates. After pass of aforesaid bills, Union Food Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Bal resigned. She lamented that Centre did t take farmers on board despite her best attempt to persue Union Cabinet in this regard. S wanted bills concerning marketing of farmers' produce to be referred to a Select Committee.
