Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Manali on October 3 for inauguration of Atal Tunnel, revealed Himachal Presh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur on Monday. dressing a press briefing, Himachal Presh CM anunced that PM was also likely to visit Lahaul-Spiti reafter, according to proposed plan. A rally is also under discussion however, it has t been finalised yet. 

Atal tunnel is located in Sissu or Keylong in Lahaul. Prime Minister is expected to flag-off a bus through tunnel during inauguration ceremony. According to Himachal Presh Technical Education Minister Ram Lal Markanda, first passengers in bus would be senior citizens of region as a mark of respect to locals of tribal district.

About Atal Tunnel

Being inaugurated after 20 years since it was first anunced,  Rohtang tunnel has been named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Vajpayee h first anunced project back on June 3, 2000, after which project faced several challenges owing to sensitive terrain of region.

Built by Border Ros Organisation (BRO) 9.2-km tunnel is world’s longest tunnel situated above an altitude of 3,000 metres. It is also said to reduce travel time between Manali and Leh by nearly 46 Kms which amounts to 4.5 hours. 

Atal tunnel is also said to open up new opportunities for tourism in tribal district.

PM to inaugurate 9 highway projects in Bihar 

On Sunday PM h anunced that he would soon lay foundation stone of 9 highway projects and inaugurate Ghar Tak Fibre project in poll-bound Bihar, stating that Bihar is going to take important steps towards a digital revolution. nine highway projects involve a ro length of about 350 kilometres at a cost of Rs 14,258 crore. se projects will enhance better connectivity, convenience, and ecomic growth in and around state and will furr improve movement of people and goods, especially with neighbouring states of Uttar Presh and Jharkhand.
