Marking a first, sources report that PM Modi will meet BJP Punjab leers - Harjeet Singh Grewal and Surjeet Kumar Jyani on Tuesday to discuss ongoing standoff between Centre and farmers. Grewal and Jyani are reportedly acting as intermediaries between farmers and Centre as protests continue for over 40 days. Moreover, Jiyani is a part of eight-member committee formed by Govt to negotiate for talks. After eight rounds of talks between Centre and farmers, breakthrough has achieved as farmers demand a total repeal of Farm Laws, which has been refused by Centre.

8th round of Centre-Farmer talks

On Monday, farmers and Centre held ir eighth round of talks which ended in an impasse with farm leers stating that y wanted a complete repeal of three laws and were t interested in any of amendments that Centre h to offer. Revealing that Government h pitched for a clause-to-clause discussion, farmer leers stated that y rejected Centre's proposition since ir one-point demand was a repeal of laws. next round of talks has been fixed on January 8.

"re will be talks again. Today we discussed three bills, n on two issues- MSP and repealing of three laws. We are going where. Kann wapasi nahi toh ghar wapasi nahi (Till time bills are repealed, we will t go home.) We told m this clearly. quicker y take bills back, better it will be for m," said Bhartiya Kisan Union's (BKU) Rakesh Tikait. Centre has alrey agreed to keep farmers out of ambit of penalty for stubble burning and has also conceded to demand of t going ahe with Electricity Amendment Bill 2020.

If Centre does t budge, farmers have decided to celebrate festival of Lohri on January 13 by burning copies of newly introduced agriculture laws and a massive tractor rally on January 26 towards Delhi.
