'Ganga our cultural lifeline, glad you spent time there', tweets Modi on Rajapaksa's visit

On Monday, PM Modi replied to Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa's tweet after he shared his experience of visiting Ganga river and Varanasi.

On Monday, PM Modi replied to Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa's tweet where he shared his experience of visiting Ganga saying that he was "gl" that his Sri Lankan counterpart h opportunity of visiting Varanasi and holy river. 

Mahinda Rajapaksa who assumed office as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka last year in vember came to India on a five-day visit to India to improve bilateral ties between two countries. After his official engment in Delhi, Mahinda Rajapaksa travelled to Varanasi and will go on furr to Sarnath, Bodh Gaya and Tirupati.

" Ganga is at heart of our civilization. It is our cultural and ecomic lifeline. I am gl you spent time in Varanasi and also went along Ganga. experience would have been wonderful!" said PM Modi in response to Prime Minister Rajapaksa's tweet.

Sri Lankan PM h also commended PM Modi for his efforts to clean river under 'Namami Gange' project. Clean Ganga or Namami Gange programme is, as name suggests, a massive, central government-led initiative to cleanse river. During ir talks at Raj Bhavan, PM Modi said that y exchanged views on bilateral and global issues, fighting terrorism and boosting security cooperation. Joint ecomic projects in Sri Lanka also found a mention in talks.

Last year his bror and newly sworn-in President of Sri Lanka, Gotabaya Rajapaksa h also come to visit India, just two weeks after assuming office. Mahinda Rajapaksa served as country's president from 2005-2015, becoming one of longest-serving leers in South Asia. He was also prime minister for a brief period in 2018.
