In a major development on Monday, N Biren Singh-led government in Manipur won motion of confidence by voice vote. This brings to an end political uncertainty prevailing in state since June 17, when 9 MLAs including Deputy CM withdrew support to BJP government. 8 Congress MLAs stayed away from Assembly proceedings despite party issuing a whip to vote against trust motion moved by Chief Minister.

Fast-paced political developments in Manipur
In a big jolt to BJP government in Manipur on June 17, three BJP MLAs resigned and 6 or coalition MLAs including Deputy CM withdrew support. BJP MLAs S Subhashchandra Singh, TT Haokip and Samuel Jendai, TMC MLA T Robindro Singh, 4 NPP MLAs Y Joykumar Singh, N. Kayisii, L Jayanta Kumar Singh, and Letpao Haokip, and Independent MLA Ashab Uddin extended ir support to Congress party. A day later, former CM Okram Ibobi Singh wrote to Goverr Najma Heptulla staking claim to form government.
He urged her to summon a special session of Assembly in a couple of days to vote on motion of -confidence against Council of Ministers which has alrey been moved before Speaker. Alternatively, he suggested that government could be outrightly dismissed as it is in a mirity. However, BJP won a high-stakes battle for Rajya Sabha seat in Manipur on June 19 where its candidate Leisamba Sanajaoba secured 28 votes as against 24 votes received by Congress' minee T Mangibabu. As per sources, two Congress MLAs cross-voted in RS poll.

On June 23, NEDA conver and Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Meghalaya CM Conr Sangma rushed to Manipur for resolving grievances of NPP MLAs. A day later, Sarma anunced that NPP h again decided to support BJP in state. An NPP delegation led by Meghalaya CM Conr Sangma and Y Joykumar Singh called on senior BJP leer and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nda. This development proved to be a game-changer as it substantially bolstered BJP government's strength.
