Bhima Koregaon: Chavan urges for SIT probe, accuses previous govt of 'power misuse'
Maharashtra Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan urged for SIT probe in the Bhima Koregaon case, accuses the then Fadnavis led BJP government of 'power misuse'.

Maharashtra Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan on Saturday urged for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe in Bhima Koregaon case. According to him, an SIT team should be formed to get real truth out. He said, " real culprits in case are yet to be arrested. ones who instigated riots and violence are hiding. A proper investigation needs to be conducted."
Raising fingers at n BJP government led by Devendra Fadnavis, Chavan said, " n BJP government has completely misused ir power."

Centre takes over Bhima-Koregaon case
A day after Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar held a review meeting with Pune police on Bhima-Koregaon case, NIA took over probe. Deshmukh condemned move and said that transfer happened without state government's consent. state government was mulling to constitute an SIT to review evidence and probe into case.

Draft Charges against accused
On December 18, last year, police had framed draft charges against nineteen accused including nine activists - Sudhir Dhawale, Rona Wilson, Surendra Gadling, Mahesh Raut, Shoma Sen, Arun Ferriera, Vern Gonsalves, Sudha Bharadwaj and Varavara Rao. charges included 'conspiracy to assassinate PM Narendra Modi', 'overthrow government', and 'waging war against Government of India' under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). charges also stated that some arrested persons are active members of banned CPI party.

About Bhima Koregaon violence
violence had erupted at Koregaon-Bhima vill in Pune district on January 1, 2018, where supporters had gared to commemorate 200th anniversary of Battle of Bhima Koregaon. This resulted in death of one person and leaving several injured. While Pune police booked several activists for inciting violence, y are also being probed for having alleged Naxal links.
