Punjab CM Mann accuses Badal & Dhindsa families of stalling work on medical college in Sangrur

Sangrur (Punjab): Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday alleged that Badal and Dhindsa families were stalling work on a state-of--art government medical college at Mastuana Sahib here.

He said state government decided to construct medical college at a cost of Rs 460 crore. Majority of fund earmarked for college has been released, Mann said, according to an official statement.

Referring to opposition leaders Sukhbir Singh Badal and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, he accused two families of “joining hands to stall work on Sangrur medical college for ir vested political interests".

chief minister said college was to commence its first academic session from March this year. people of entire Malwa region could have got best medical facilities in region.

Mann said this medical college would have offered a lot of direct and indirect employment opportunities to youth of region, besides giving a major push to overall development of entire Malwa belt.

He, however, alleged that Badal and Dhindsa families "have sunk all ir political differences just to stall this ambitious project".

"Both se affluent families have made concerted efforts to ensure that this project should t kick off by creating legal troubles," he said.

Badals have even misused Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) -- apex religious body of Sikhs -- to get this project stalled so that common people should continue to suffer, he alleged.

chief minister alleged that it is unfortunate that SGPC is acting like a puppet in hands of Badal family and is being used by m "for fulfilling ir nefarious political designs".

"Badals or Dhindsas can do whatever y want, but this project will start at any cost," he said.

Mann had laid foundation stone of college in August and anunced that it will be functional from April 1, 2023.

However, after a controversy over ownership of land, work has been carried out on it.

Last month, a delegation of SGPC members and SAD leaders had bmitted a memorandum to Sangrur Deputy Commissioner (DC), offering help to government in construction of medical college at Mastuana Sahib.

Former SGPC chief Gobind Singh Longowal had last month said that wrong information was being spread and apex religious body of Sikhs had never opposed construction of medical college.
