Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday, September 27, 2018, intensified his attack on controversial Rafale deal by accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of choosing  Reliance Defence over state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to benefit Anil Ambani. Gandhi's scion also accused Ambani of having not returned Rs 45,000 crore allegedly taken from Public Sector Banks.

Kick-starting his two-day visit to poll-bound Mhya Presh,  Congress president at a public garing here said,

"Anil Ambani has not even constructed one aircraft in his whole life so far. He is in debt of Rs 45,000 crore. He has taken money from Public Sector Banks and has not returned Rs 45,000 crore yet. Prime Minister Modi gave Rafale contract to Anil Ambani's firm, inste of HAL."

Rahul Gandhi questioned why Bengaluru-based HAL was denied contract. He also alleged that contract was given to Reliance Defence which was set up just 10 days prior to deal. "HAL was given Rafale contract to generate jobs. It h 70 years of experience, but later contract was given to Anil Ambani which h 10 days of experience only," Gandhi pointed out.

He furr elaborated, " Government of India said that since Rafale deal was a secret pact price can't be revealed. When French President was here, I met him and asked if re is a secret pact on price? He said no, if Prime Minister Modi wants to reveal he can do so. Hindustan ke chaukidaar ne chori kar di (India's watchman has done ft."

Continuing his tire against Prime Minister, Gandhi expressed his concern over unemployment in country and future of youth.

Gandhi said it is a matter of shame that first deputy prime minister of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's idol is being me in China. "Narendra Modi Ji is making Sardar Patel's statue in Gujarat. It will be world's tallest statue but it will be 'Me in China' like our shoes and shirts. It's a matter of shame," he ded.

Prior to public rally, Rahul Gandhi offered prayers at famous Kamta Nath temple in Chitrakoot, a religious town closely associated with Lord Ram.

Rafale controversy took a new twist last week after former French president Francois Hollande claimed that  Indian government proposed Reliance Defence's name as offset partner for Dassault Aviation.

 Congress has been accusing Centre of irregularities in high-profile Defence fighter jets contract, alleging that central government was procuring each aircraft at a cost of over Rs 1,670 crore as against Rs 526 crore finalized by United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. Congress has time and again asked Prime Minister Modi-led government to reveal price details of  aircraft and how rate of each aircraft has shot up. However, government has refused to share details, citing a secrecy clause of 2008 pact between India and France.as
