Rahul Gandhi visits Wayanad
Earlier on Tuesday, Gandhi had visited Wayanad to interact with people in relief camps in the aftermath of the devastation caused by the floods and landslides. He is on a four-day visit, and distributed relief materials to the people in the camps at Chungam and Valad and heard their troubles. However, speaking to media, Rahul Gandhi politicised Kerala floods and targeted the BJP-led Central government by calling it biased.
Rahul Gandhi said that BJP is not in power in Kerala, adding that it does not care about the people in the state. "Central government has a bias. Where they are not in power, they don't really care. They are not in power in Kerala, so they don't care about it," he said.
Congress leader urges for help
Rahul Gandhi had visited his constituency earlier this month after heavy rains and floods had triggered a series of landslides and caused havoc in the northern districts of Wayanad and Malappuram. At least 125 people have lost their lives in the heavy rains and landslides. While 60 people have died in Malappuram, 14 have lost their lives in rain-related incidents in neighbouring Wayanad district. The former Congress chief also wrote to RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das seeking an extension on the time period for repayment of crop loans of farmers in the state to 31 December 2019. He had also appealed to the people to provide relief materials to those hit by the devastating floods in Wayanad and other parts of the state.
