The BJP welcomed the Supreme Court's order on Monday to grant permanent commission to all women officers in the Army, and attacked the Congress by saying that the denial of the posts was its legacy.

"Mr Rahul Gandhi please refresh memory button. It was Congress govt that argued vociferously against permanent commissioning of women in Army back in 2010 before Delhi HC," BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi, who represented women officers in apex court, said.

"It was your govt who challenged decision before SC which ruled in favour of women," Lekhi said at a press conference at party hequarters in New Delhi. Calling for an end to bias in armed forces, Supreme Court has opened way for women in command positions in Army and directed Centre to grant permanent commission to all women officers within three months.
Congress leer Rahul Gandhi alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party government disrespected Indian women by arguing in court that y did t deserve command posts as y were inferior to men. Lekhi alleged that Gandhi h used derogatory langu towards government on issue.

BJP leer ded that only if Gandhi was aware of facts that successive Congress governments filed affidavits before courts arguing against granting permanent commission, he would t have me those remarks. Lekhi also congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi, judges and ors. She said Modi was never against permanent commission and he exhibited his intent by making a public anuncement in his dress to nation on August 15, 2018.
Lekhi said women should be treated equally as y were also serving nation like ir male colleagues. According to her, women are t asking for any charity or favour, but simply seeking to be treated and dealt at par with ir male colleagues. It was also about justice and was being used to cause injustice, she ded.
