Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot urges PM Modi to hold direct talks with farmers over Farm Laws

Ashok Gehlot also spoke about the violence that was witnessed by the national capital on January 26, asking for a fair probe into the incident.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday urged Centre to correct its 'ill measures' asking Prime Minister to take cognizance of long-drawn farmers' agitation and personally talk to farmers. Stating that re was thing wrong in changing decisions, Gehlot asked Union Government to withdraw Farm Laws.

"re is still a chance for  Government to correct its ill measures. I believe Prime Minister must take cognizance and talk to farmers himself. government should reverse decision (regarding farm laws). re is thing wrong with changing decisions. It happens in a democracy. People will welcome it," said Gehlot.

senior Congress leader also spoke about violence witnessed by national capital on January 26, asking for a fair probe into incident. "We condemn violence on Republic Day by some anti-social elements. Farmers were protesting peacefully for 65 days. Why did judicial inquiry t happen? re should be a fair probe into incident," said Ashok Gehlot.

On or hand, leader dismissed clashes between locals and farmers at Singhu border alleging that BJP was pushing villrs to act out against farmers. " clashes happened on behest of BJP. y (BJP) are pushing villrs to clash with farmers. This is t good," he said. 

PM urges talks over Farm Laws

Earlier in day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Opposition parties to hold talks with protesting farmers over three Farm Laws, reiterating  Centre's offer to stay reforms for 1.5 years. As per sources, addressing an all-party meeting, PM Modi stated that while Centre and Farm unions had t gotten to a consensus, government was just a 'phone call away'.

From what started as a scheduled protest in national capital on vember 26, farmer unions continue to agitate against  Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020,  Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 for 66th consecutive day. Nearly 11 rounds of Centre-farmer talks have concluded in an impasse.
