Ravi Shankar Prasad says Agricultural laws will help farmers become 'self-sufficient'

Union Minister of Law Ravi Shankar Prasad on Monday welcomed the Agricultural laws saying that they would help the farmers of India become "self-sufficient"

Union Minister of Law Ravi Shankar Pras on Monday welcomed  Farm laws saying that y would help farmers of India become "self-sufficient". Union Minister also spoke about how number of crops that government was purchasing from farmers was steily increasing giving an example of Moong crop which Centre began purchasing after Modi Government came to power. 

"With new agricultural laws, every farmer will w become self-sufficient. number of crops purchased by government from farmers has increased. For example, government did t buy moong crop in 2013-14. At same time, in 2019-20, 1.66 lakh MT of moong was purchased by Modi government," minister tweeted.

Farmers' agitation continues 

protests over farm laws continued on Monday with farmers in Punjab sitting on Amritsar-Delhi railway track. Several farmers, under banner of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, have been staging a dharna on rail track in Punjab since last week. Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh also held a sit-in protest, in Khatkar Kalan, ancestral vill of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. Earlier in day,  Punjab Youth Congress live-streamed ir protest, burning a tractor at India Gate. police are trying to identify those involved in condemnable incident. 

Meanwhile, in Karnataka, farmers groups have called for a state-wide shutdown against agricultural laws. bandh was supported by opposition Congress. It has criticised laws terming it ‘anti-farmer’ and alleged that y were passed in violation of rules. Farmers have expressed apprehension that Centre's farm reforms would dismantle minimum support price system, leaving m at "mercy" of big companies.
