Remembering Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray on his seventh death anniversary, former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis took to Twitter to pay his tributes. Posting some of Balasaheb's fiery speeches, Fadnavis tweeted ' Respected Balasaheb taught us the main mantra for maintaining self-pride'. Addressing Balasaheb using his moniker 'Hindu Hridaysamrat', Fadnavis posted a video of his own speech about the Sena Supremo.

Similarly, NCP Supremo Sharad Pawar too extolled the Sena founder for his great sense of regional pride in the being 'Marathi Manoos'. Remembering Balasaheb's socialism, fiery speech and strong Opposing nature, Pawar stated that those qualities were what made him beloved to his supporters. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari too paid his tributes to the Sena patriarch.
About Balasaheb Thackeray
Famously known as the 'Hindu Hridaysamrat', Bal Thackeray had started as a cartoonist with a Free press Journal (FPJ). After leaving FPJ, Thackeray went on to establish his political weekly - 'Marmik' commenting on the growing influence of non-Marathis in 1960s Bombay. To advocate pro-Marathi interests and to forward the pro-Hindutva cause, Thackeray founded the Shiv Sena.
After the establishment of the Shiv Sena, Thackeray's political sway in Maharashtra - especially in Mumbai grew leaps and bounds. Post -1992, Thackeray - also the founder of Saamana, vociferously fought for the Ram Mandir movement, allying with the BJP as part of the NDA. In 1999, Thackeray was banned from voting and contesting in any election for six years by the EC. Thackeray never held any official position but was known as the kingmaker in the Maharashtra government. On November 17, 2012, Thackeray passed away at his residence Matoshree and was accorded a state funeral.
