Pointing out disconnect between Central Congress High command and state Congress, Mumbai Congress leer Sanjay Nirupam, on Friday, stated that former Finance Minister P Chidambaram was telling JNU students to oppose National Population Register (NPR). He stated that this was in contrast to Maharashtra's Sena-NCP-Congress government which has alrey anunced implementation of NPR from May 1 to June 15. Nirupam has often criticised rebellion within Congress, saying that party lacks clear leership.

Stating ar example he pointed out that Maharashtra Home Ministry which was controlled by NCP wanted a police SIT to investigate into Elgaar Parish case. But CM and Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray followed Centre's line allowing transfer of case to National Investigation ncy (NIA). He has posed a question to party's Central leership, 'Is leership in Delhi aware?'

What did Chidambaram say on NPR?
former Union Minister on Thursday called for a "huge mass movement" if any Muslim is sent to detention camps, in case Supreme Court upholds validity of contentious Citizenship law (CAA). Speaking at JNU campus in Delhi, Chidamabaram said Congress believes CAA must be repealed and re should be a political struggle so that National Population Register (NPR) is pushed beyond 2024. While some Congress-ruled states have passed anti-CAA resolution, ne of Congress-ruled states have stalled NPR.

What happened in Elgaar Parish transfer?
Amid ideological rifts in Aghi, NCP wished to probe into Elgaar Parish case in which nine activists have been charged with 'conspiracy to assassinate PM Narendra Modi', 'overthrow government', 'waging war against Government of India'. But Centre decided to transfer case to NIA, without consulting state. While State's Home Minister approached a Pune court challenging transfer, CM - Uddhav Thackeray, whose party was a part of Fnavis government gave a objection Certificate to transfer of case to NIA.
