Sanjay Nirupam criticises Milind Deora's decision to appoint 3-member committee to run Mumbai Congress, says ''it will ruin party further"

Former Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam who was replaced by Milind Deora from the post a month ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections reacted to his successor's decision on the running of the party in the metro city.

After quitting as the Mumbai president of the party, Deora has appointed a three-member committee to run Mumbai Congress. Deora is most likely to work in a national role from Delhi.

Nirupam has criticised Deora's decision to have a three-member committee to head the Mumbai Congress. He tweeted on the matter saying that the idea is not appropriate and will hurt the party more. He also slammed him for aiming for a national post after quitting as Mumbai chief.

A statement issued by Deora's office on Sunday said taking on the BJP-Shiv Sena and negating the impact of Vanchit Aghadi was a challenge for the Congress in Maharashtra. Deora expressed his desire to quit shortly after meeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on June 26. "The same has been conveyed to All India Congress Committee general secretaries Mallikarjun Kharge and K C Venugopal," the statement said

When contacted, Deora said political realities have changed since the Lok Sabha results. "We all will have to get ready for roles that these times demand," he said.

Deora was appointed president of the Mumbai Congress on the eve of the Lok Sabha polls held earlier this year. "I had accepted MRCC presidentship in the interest of uniting the party. I felt I should also resign after meeting Rahul Gandhi," he said.

The former Mumbai Congress chief's decision comes as senior Congress leaders met at the Congress war room 15 GRG, New Delhi where they discussed the matter of the next Congress president and the ongoing political crisis in Karnataka.
