SC Allows Mehbooba Mufti's Daughter Iltija To Meet Her In Srinagar

The Supreme Court has allowed Mehbooba Mufti's daughter Iltija Javed to meet her in Srinagar after she moved to the SC citing her mother's health concern.

The Supreme Court on Thursday allowed Iltija Javed, daughter of Mehbooba Mufti, former Jammu & Kashmir chief minister, to visit Srinagar to meet her. Iltija had moved to the apex court citing Mufti's health as a concern with she hadn't seen her for over a month now. This comes after the former J&K CM was put under house arrest following the historic abrogation of Article 370 which allowed the state of Jammu & Kashmir to enjoy a special status.

SC Hears Iltija Javed's Plea

A bench comprising of Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, Justices S A Bobde and S Abdul Nazeer heard Iltija's petition and granted Javed the permission and the also the date of her choice to visit Srinagar. She was also granted the liberty to move around the town provided she takes prior permission from the state authorities. Iltija, who is currently in Chennai faced objection from Attorney General K K Venugopal and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta stating that she could always reach out to the District Magistrate. However, the objection was ruled out by the bench.

SC Allows Shifting Of Tarigami To AIIMS Delhi

Earlier, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury had also moved to SC challenging the detention of Tarigami, a four-time MLA from Kulagam constituency of the now-dissolved J&K assembly. Yechury stated 72-year-old Tarigami's health as an issue, post which the court allowed Yechury to visit the leader in Kashmir on August 29 and directed him to submit a report to CJI based on his visit. The SC on September 5, Thursday, allowed shifting of CPI(M) leader Tarigami to AIIMS Delhi on Yechury's plea.

Several J&K Leaders Detained Post 370 Abrogation

Post the abrogation of Article 370 in J&K, several leaders including, former J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah and People's Conference leaders Sajjad Lone and Imran Ansari were taken into preventive custody. Mufti was then taken to Hari Niwas - a VVIP guest house and placed under house arrest.
