Hours after the Congress announced that Priyanka Gandhi would finally be taking the plunge into active politics, with Rahul Gandhi appointing her as the party's General Secretary in Uttar Pradesh, sources have told Republic TV that a more active role could also be in store for Robert Vadra.
As per inputs, not only may Priyanka Gandhi actually contest elections, that too from her mother's Lok Sabha constituency of Rae Bareli, but her husband and Rahul Gandhi's brother-in-law Robert Vadra may be a top campaigner for the Congress.

If this does happen, it would break what has come to be an almost cardinal rule regarding Robert Vadra - that he is a private citizen - and unaffiliated to the Congress party. Earlier, minutes after Priyanka Gandhi's appointment had been confirmed, Robert Vadra had posted a congratulatory message on Facebook saying the following:
"Congratulations P... always by your side in every phase of your life.
Give it your best. šš"

Rahul Gandhi, who is visiting his own Lok Sabha constituency of Amethi on Wednesday, waxed eloquent about his new Uttar Pradesh leadership team comprising Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Jyotiraditya Scindia (appointed General Secretary Uttar Pradesh West) and said that they would herald a new dawn:
The BJP, meanwhile, opined that the appointment of Priyanka Gandhi was yet another example of the Congress putting dynasty first, whereas Union Minister Smriti Irani, who has been a thorn in Rahul Gandhi's side in Amethi, said that Priyanka Gandhi's elevation was tantamount to an official admission of Rahul Gandhi's failure in the state.

The Congress party, however, has tweeted with great enthusiasm:
