Sena, TMC, BSP, DMK bunk: Amid dwindling 'Opposition', here's who answered Congress' call

Amid the protests over CAA & NRC, Congress on Monday called for an all Opposition meeting. Many parties snubbed it. Here is the list of leaders who attended it

Amid widespread protests over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and a proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC), opposition parties met on Monday to discuss current political situation and figure out ir strategy. meeting called by Congress was expected to be a show of strength but absence of parties like Mamata Banerjee's TMC, BSP, Shiv Sena, DMK and AAP made it look ordinary. Despite this, few opposition party leaders attended meeting at  Parliament Annexe Building.

Here is list of leaders who were a part of meeting:

1. Congress

Or leaders who attended meeting were IUML's PK Kinhalikutty, Shatrujeet Singh from Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), Mir Mohammad Fayaz from PDP, Hasnain Masoodi NC. Members from parties like JDS, RLD, Forward Bloc etc were also present.

Earlier in day, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati decided to stay away. Mayawati tweeted that her party was boycotting meet as Congress had poached her MLAs in Rajasthan. Mayawati had dissolved party's executive in Rajasthan after all  its six legislators joined Congress. Congress ally in Tamil Nadu, DMK, has also skipped meeting despite party and its president MK Stalin being vocal in its opposition to citizenship law.

Aam Aadmi Party, too, decided t to attend meeting. Party leader Sanjay Singh said that party was "t aware" of meeting and hence y would t attend it. re was also confusion over wher Shiv Sena, which is in alliance with Congress in Maharashtra, would attend meeting as varying reports came through day. Later, sources in Uddhav Thackeray's party said y had t received a formal invite for meeting and hence could t attend.
