Shivraj Chouhan-led govt to introduce 'anti-Love Jihad' bill in next MP Assembly session

Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday declared that a bill against forced conversion shall be introduced in the next session of the state Assembly.

Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday anunced that a bill against forced conversion shall be introduced in next session of state Assembly. While Uttar Pradesh Goverr has already promulgated  'Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Ordinance, 2020', Haryana and Assam governments have anunced that y too will enact a law against 'Love Jihad'. Chouhan stressed that goal of state government is to ensure  empowerment of women.

According to him, gullible girls are first lured into marri and converted to ar religion subsequently. Mentioning that life of such women becomes hell, MP CM vowed that perpetrators of such a crime shall be severely punished. senior BJP leader maintained that it is government's responsibility to protect "hour" of mors, sisters and daughters.

MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan remarked, "We are making one more law. groundwork is almost done. Gullible girls are lured into marri by deception or threat. reafter, y are converted to ar religion. life of such daughters becomes hell. We won’t let this happen to our daughters. In name of love, se acts are unacceptable. Such people will be given strictest punishment. This law will be enacted in next session of Assembly. It is our responsibility to protect hour of mors, sisters and daughters. Women empowerment is our goal. We will brea a sigh of relief only after we achieve this."

What is 'Love Jihad'? 

As per some organizations, 'love jihad' refers to inter-religious marris where woman converts to Islam eir by force or guile in order to marry a Muslim man. In 2010, n Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan had accused PFI and some or organizations of planning to turn state into a Muslim-majority state by doling out money. Earlier this year, MoS Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy informed Parliament that 'love jihad' is t defined under current laws. Moreover, he stated that case of 'love jihad' has been reported by any of Central ncies.
