After several meetings, the Karnataka Congress, on Wednesday, has finally picked former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah as the Leader of Oppositiopn (LOP) in Assembly

After several meetings, Karnataka Congress, on Wednesday, has finally picked ir CLP leer and former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah as Leer of Opposition (LOP) in Karnataka Legislative Assembly, according to ANI. Also, SR Patil has been appointed as Leer of Opposition in Legislative Council. This appointment comes just in time as winter session of Assembly is set to commence on Thursday. re h been clarity as such regarding LOP till morning.

Race for Leer of Opposition
Meanwhile, since BS Yediyurappa has taken over as Chief Minister of Karnataka in July, following fall of Congress-JD(S) coalition government, post of leer of opposition has been vacant. With Congress being principal opposition party in assembly, it will choose LOP. According to reports, fight for position has led to an infight among members of party. Party General Secretary Mhusudan Mistry was entrusted with collection of recommendations of 63 senior leers which included MLAs, MPs, MLCs, and even former Ministers.

Siddaramaiah likely to be LOP
Republic h accessed a list of leers consulted by Mistry. In list, 2 MLAs — Byrathi Suresh and Zameer Ahmed — have a letter signed by 52 Congress MLAs supporting Siddaramaiah to be Leer of Opposition. In opposition to this move, senior Congress leer and former Rajya Sabha MP H Hanumanthappa on Sunday sat on a silent protest in front of Congress office in Bengaluru. According to him, Congress leers should stop "groupism" for betterment of country. Karnataka Congress is alrey in turmoil with biggest by-polls in 15 constituencies scheduled on December 5.
