Sikkim to witness BJP-SKM alliance ahead of by-polls in October

In recent developments, BJP has tied up with Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) ahe of Sikkim by-polls. by-polls are supposed to take place on October 21. dressing a joint press conference on Saturday, Nitin Navin, BJP's Sikkim in-charge anunced that two parties have decided to come toger to boost development in State. saffron party is all set to contest elections from Gangtok and Martak-Rumtek Assembly seats. se Assembly seats are usually reserved for Bhutia and Lepcha communities. ruling party SKM will field its candidates from Poklok-Kamrang seat.

'This is new beginning of a long-term relationship. BJP and SKM have worked out a seat-sharing formula for upcoming bypolls to three Assembly seats.' Mr Navin said in a statement.

BJP who has been trying to get power in state received a major boost last year. 10 Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) MLAs h joined BJP giving it ded augmentation that it needed. Earlier, SKM spokesperson Jacob Khaling Rai h spoken of alliance. He stated that State h certain issues that can only be resolved with help of Centre.

State has been asking for reservation of Limboo and Tamang communities for a while w. It has been demanding for reservation and tribal status for 11 'left-out' communities. Jacob Khaling Rai speaking about alliance stated that 'we are confident that two governments, one at Centre and or in state, will work toger to fulfil pending demands of people'. Furr speaking about Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, he stated that party's parliamentary board will anunce a decision soon about CM's plans of contesting by-polls. CM has been touted to contest by-polls from Polok-Kamrang seat.
