Silent on 'all-Opposition' meet flop show, Sonia Gandhi launches attack on Modi-Shah

Multiple opposition parties gared at national capital for a meeting on Monday. official Twitter handle of Congress party also shared a picture of leaders that had come toger for  meeting called by Congress. NCP leader Praful Patel, Communist Party of India leader D Raja, Rajul Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi were among several or leaders of political parties who attended  meeting. 

meeting, however, turned out to be a 'flop show' as West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had earlier anunced that she would boycott January 13 opposition meeting, or party leaders like MK Stalin, Mayawati, Arvind Kejriwal also skipped meet.

Post meeting, Congress Party's interim President Sonia Gandhi released a statement where she accused Prime Minister and Home Minister of misguiding citizens and also stated that instruments of governance are being misused.

" government has let loose a reign of oppression, spreading hatred and trying to divide our people along sectarian lines. re's unprecedented turmoil. constitution is being undermined and instruments of governance being misused," Sonia Gandhi said. 

In her statement, she also widely spoke about how students and youth is being targeted and how CAA and NRC is immediate cause of protest and frustration among youth.

Calling attack on  Jawaharlal Nehru University campus a 'BJP-orchestrated assault,' Sonia Gandhi said, " entire nation watched in horror at BJP-orchestrated assault on JNU coming so soon after what happened in Jamia, BHU, Allahabad University & AMU and or institutions of higher learning."

Sonia Gandhi targets PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah 

Slamming Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, Sonia Gandhi blamed m for misleading people and for contradicting ir own statement.

"y've contradicted ir own statements of only weeks ago, and continue with ir provocative statements while remaining insensitive to state suppression and violence that is increasingly becoming commonplace," Sonia's statement read.

" Modi-Shah government stands exposed for its inability to govern and provide security to people," statement added.

'Flop show Opposition Meeting' as AAP, BSP & Trinamool skip meeting

Earlier in day, AAP's Sanjay Singh had informed that AAP was t aware of meeting, and thus, will t be attending meeting. BSP Supremo Mayawati has blamed Congress of dividing BSP in Rajasthan despite its outside support to Congress government and hence skipped meeting. On or hand, Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee stated that she will be boycotting Opposition meeting due to vandalism caused by 'Congress and Left leaders' during anti-CAA protests. Both have stated that y are still against CAA.re was also confusion over wher Shiv Sena, which is in alliance with Congress in Maharashtra, would attend meeting as varying reports came through day. Later, sources in Uddhav Thackeray's party said y had t received a formal invite for meeting and hence could t attend.

Opposition meeting on CAA

Congress party which had called Opposition meeting in Parliament at 2 PM on Monday, held new year's first Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting to discuss Opposition meet on CAA on Saturday. Opposition meeting has been called to give shape to Opposition's strategy in wake of widespread student protests against Citizenship (Amendment) Act, National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR), which several parties have vocally opposed and supported student protests against it.
