Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh to meet Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina
Congress President Sonia Gandhi, along with former prime minister Manmohan Singh is all set to meet visiting Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday.

Congress' interim President Sonia Gandhi, along with former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and party leader Anand Sharma is all set to meet visiting Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday. It is expected that the party leaders are going to talk to Hasina about ways to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Prime Minister Hasina, who is the longest-serving Prime Minister of Bangladesh, is on a four-day visit to India. She returned to power for a second term in 2009 when the Congress-led UPA government was in power. Manmohan Singh had previously met her while visiting Bangladesh as the Prime Minister of India in 2011.

Additionally, Sheikh Hasina had a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. According to government sources, the focus of the talks was to significantly expand the areas of cooperation between the two countries. The meeting saw a joint inauguration of three projects that are expected to strengthen ties in diverse areas including defence and security, trade and connectivity.
Further, 7 pacts in core areas such as transport, connectivity, capacity building and culture were signed by the two countries collectively. Moreover, three projects with talks of the import of LPG from Bangladesh were also launched during the meeting.

Apart from meeting PM Modi, according to a tweet by the MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar, Hasina also met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and also attended the World Economic Forum on Thursday and Friday. This is her first visit to India since parliamentary elections were held in Bangladesh and India.
