Merely a day after BJP leader Sangeet Som sparked controversy with his comments about the Taj Mahal, Samajwadi Party leader and former Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan added fuel to the already existing debate by claiming that the  Parliament, Rashtrapati Bhavan and Qutub Minar are "signs of slavery."

While addressing the media, the SP leader said, “I have always been of the opinion that all monuments that depict slavery and smell of yesteryear rulers should be demolished. It is true that Muslims invaded India. We should not go into the details because that will make the discussion bitter. I refrain from speaking on it otherwise people will feel bad. I had previously said, why just Taj Mahal? Why not the Parliament, Rashtrapati Bhawan, Qutab Minar, Delhi's Lal Qila (Delhi's Red Fort)? They are all signs of slavery.”

Earlier on Monday, BJP MLA Sangeet Som, while addressing a function at Sisauli village in Meerut district said that Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world, is a blot on the Indian culture. He added that traitors built Taj Mahal and it should not get space in history. He said, “Many people were disappointed that the Taj Mahal was removed from UP tourism booklet. What history are we talking about? The creator of Taj Mahal (Shahjahan) imprisoned his father. He wanted to wipe out Hindus. If these people are part of our history, then it is very sad and we will change this history.”
