NEET-JEE row: Stalin writes to CMs of different states to approach SC for postponement

Amid debate over NEET-JEE exams, DMK President MK Stalin has written a letter to chief ministers of Andhra Presh, Telangana, Kerala and Odisha to approach Supreme Court for postponement of National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) due to coronavirus pandemic.
While several states and student organisations have opposed decision to hold exams amid Coronavirus pandemic, Education Ministry confirmed that date of examination is finalised and would t be deferred furr. Stalin in his letter said that decision h been taken to postpone examination in June 2020 mainly because conditions were t conducive and re was hope that rmality will return in a few months.

letter furr emphasised on severity of crisis ding that country has witnessed floods and landslides which cut off most of rural and hilly areas from mainland.
"In light of severe difficulties, keeping well-being and future of students in mind, I sincerely request you to join in solidarity with states and approach Supreme court on postponement of NEET and JEE exams for greater good, as our united stand can help voices of students and parents across country," letter said.

Stalin writes to Centre
Earlier on Tuesday, Stalin h urged Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal stating that Joint Entrance Examination and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test should be postponed until spre of COVID-19 was brought under control. Besides COVID-19, which has wreaked havoc on nation, many parts of country were yet to recover from recent floods that have ravd people''s livelihoods, he said in a letter to Pokhriyal. He also said that students and parents are under ermous mental stress, ding that considering current restrictions on public transportation, allotted exam centres are t uniformly accessible to all aspirants.

Meanwhile, over 100 acemicians from various universities in India and abro have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that delaying medical and engineering entrance exams any furr will mean compromising future of students. Like every year, this year too millions of students have passed ir Class 12 exams and are w waiting at home to erly take next step, letter said.

While JEE Main examination will be held between September 1 to 6, NEET examination is scheduled for September 13. NTA assured all students of a safe environment in wake of COVID-19 crisis.
