Supreme Court To Look At Material Against 5 Accused In Urban Naxal Case

For the first time, the Central Govt states its position in top court in the case of the 5 accused who are suspected of having Maoist links. ASG Maninder Singh told the Top Court “A Peculiar problem has risen. Naxalism is a problem in the country''. He added that the 5 accused have options to approach the lower court.

Supporting him, Tushar Mehta, a senior lawyer appearing for Maharashtra government said:

“Those who had filed the petition are neither related to the case nor do they have any idea about it. Also, there are many alleged incriminating documents recovered from accused”

The Supreme court has fixed September 19 as the final date of hearing.

Representing several petitioners, senior lawyer Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi said the reason behind directly approaching the apex court was to appeal for a court-monitored probe or an investigation. The high octave hearing saw many lawyers speaking in high pitched tones and retorts by the others side in a higher tone. A Chaotic Hearing where the Maharashtra government is confident once the court has seen the charges and material before  them they accused will be behind bars
