Failed Lok Sabha attempt
Ahead of the 2019 General Elections, she entered the election fray from the Maharajganj Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh. She is the daughter of the late Congress politician Harsh Vardhan, who had won the same seat in 2009. However, she was not the first candidate earmarked by the party. It had decided to give the ticket to Tanushree Tripathi, the daughter of jailed politician Amarmani Tripathi. Congress suffered considerable embarrassment as Shivpal Yadav's Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party-Lohia also named the same candidate to contest from Maharajganj. At this juncture, Shrinate got the opportunity to fight the election. Despite a spirited campaign that even involved the participation of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, she lost to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Pankaj Chaudhary by a huge margin.
