Three farm bills before Parliament, keeping in mind farmers' welfare: BJP President Nadda

BJP national president JP Nda said on Wednesday said that three ordinances, Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, Farmers' Produce Tre & Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Ordinance, and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance Ordinance tabled in Monsoon session of Parliament are for welfare of farmers.

'Attracting greater investment'
Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020, was passed in Lok Sabha on Tuesday which was second day of Monsoon session. Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Raosaheb Danve while replying to debate in house said government h anunced an ordinance to amend Essential Commodities Act 1955 which said that supply of agricultural foodstuff as is tified by Central Government shall be regulated only under extraordinary circumstances and any action for imposing stock limit shall be based on price rise, subject to conditions and exclusions specified rein.
" Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act will ensure supply chain will be established for vegetables and fruits. Agriculture will attract greater investment due to this amendment". In current perspective, to boost investment in agriculture this bill will play an important role. Due to corona crisis, re was a possibility of a rise in prices of food products due to disruption in transport and supply chain of food products but our government did t allow that to happen," he said.

bills have been brought in parliament amid heavy criticism and apprehension from farmer community. Leers of Shiromani Akali Dal (S) on Tuesday met Nda in Delhi and urged him that Centre dress farmers' concerns over three farm bills and also sought that proposed legislation be sent to a Parliamentary committee.
S, which is part of National Democratic Alliance (NDA), h appealed last week to Centre t to present three farm ordinances for approval in Parliament until “all reservations” expressed by farmers are "duly dressed”.

"We have said (in meeting) since re is a misgiving in minds of farmers over se bills, it is important that this issue be dressed. farmers feel this (farm bills) is anti-farmer,” Gujral h told reporters.
“You people (BJP) think you have best interest of farmers in mind, but perception in Punjab, Haryana and parts of Rajasthan and UP is totally different. So best way would be to send this (se bills) to joint select committee which will n consult with all stakeholders,” he furr said.

Protests were held in Punjab and Haryana against three farm ordinances introduced by Centre and farmers have been demanding rollback of se ordinances. Farmers have expressed apprehension that se three ordinances would pave way for dismantling of minimum support price system and y would be at “mercy” of big corporates.
